The C-47 airplane proved to be a very valuable airplane for the Allied Armies during
World War 2. Large numbers of these planes were built.
The plane was important in all Airborne operations during the war. Most planes were
sent into civilian airservice after the war. Other planes were put into the serice
of other nations armies or even in the Vietnam war.
Today, some of those planes are still flying, or put to rest in a museum. Other planes
are sitting somewhere and rusting away.
On the day of writing this, a C-53 airplane that flew with the 62nd Troop Carrier
Squadron on the Normandy invasion is about to be restored. Also received a question
for information on an old C-47 of the 74th Troop Carrier Squadron that will be repainted
in war time scheme.
These two and the knowledge of some other surviving birds decided to do this pages
to show these planes and in support of those who take care of those survivors.
